Legal Requirements

Before your marriage can take place you need to:

  • Fill in the Notice of Intended Marriage form (NOIM). You can download this form from this link here.

  • Find a registered Marriage Celebrant. You can check the celebrant’s registration through this link here.

  • Lodge the NOIM form with the Marriage Celebrant not less than one calendar month prior to the wedding day. This form is valid for 18 months and the proposed marriage can take place at a later date.

 

On the wedding day you will need two Witnesses over the age of 18 years to witness your Vows and sign the Marriage Register and Certificates.

 

The Marriage Celebrant will need to be shown the following identification in order to complete the NOIM form:

  • Evidence of the date and place of birth – an original Birth Certificate or an Australian passport. If born outside Australia, an Overseas passport;

  • ID document – driver’s licence,passport or an Australian citizenship certificate

  • If you have been previously married, evidence of termination of the previous marriage –original Divorce or Death certificates

 

If you choose me to be your Marriage Celebrant I will responsibly:

  • Handle all legal paperwork for your marriage registration and lodge the required forms with the BDM Registry after the wedding

  • Solemnise your marriage according to the Australian law

  • Provide guidance in obtaining the Official Marriage Certificate from the BDM Registry

  • Provide Letters to the Immigration Department as a part of the Application for a Fiancé/Partner Visa.
